Mission Briefing
NASA is going back to the Moon, and this time, we are staying! We are going to build a permanent base at the Lunar South Pole where astronauts can live, work, and explore.
Before we build anything, we need visionary thinkers to dream up what this base could look like. Today, you are the lead architect. Let your imagination run wild and design the ultimate Moon Base!
Visual Inspiration: Apollo 15
Use this real photograph from the Apollo 15 mission to help you visualize the lunar landscape. Notice the gray, dusty surface (regolith), the rolling mountains in the distance, and the stark contrast between the surface and the black sky.

The 4 Moon Base Must-Haves
1. The Living Quarters
Astronauts will be living here for months at a time. They need a place that feels like home! Where do they sleep? Do they have a space-lounge with a big window looking out at Earth? Where do they eat?
Creative Spark
Draw some cool rooms inside your base. Maybe a sci-fi gym so they can work out in the Moon's low gravity!
2. The Power Station
A moon base needs tons of electricity to keep the lights on, run the heaters, and power the video games! How does your base get its power?
Creative Spark
Do you have fields of giant solar panels? A glowing futuristic reactor? Giant batteries? Draw how your base stays powered up.
3. Rovers & Airlocks
The astronauts need to go outside to explore the craters! How do they get in and out of the base without letting all the air escape? Where do they park their vehicles?
Creative Spark
Draw an awesome Moon Rover parked outside, or a cool high-tech airlock door where they put on their spacesuits.
4. The Space Garden
It is too expensive to bring all our food from Earth. To stay on the Moon forever, astronauts will need to grow their own food and make their own oxygen!
Creative Spark
Draw a glass dome or a brightly lit greenhouse filled with space-plants! What kind of fruits or veggies would you grow on the Moon?
